The main privacy issues surrounding AI are potential data breaches and unauthorized access to personal information. Because so much data is collected and processed, there is a risk of it falling into the wrong hands, whether because of hacking or other security breaches. The ramifications of generative AI programs, such as ChatGPT, will continue to emerge over the next decade. Without a clear strategy that focuses on privacy, companies can put their profitability and reputation at risk.
AI processing uses huge amounts of data, and some of it could be sensitive personal information. Through analysis, some of them could be used for identification purposes. When data has been anonymized, there is also a risk that it will be de-anonymized (possibly by AI) or that, to begin with, it will not be sufficiently anonymized.
Privacy legislative proposals that address these issues do not address artificial intelligence anonymously.
